Fishing in Ohio Creek is locally famous and features four species of trout. The fish migrate from the Gunnison River and Blue Mesa Reservoir.

LOCATION
Castleton Ranch is located 20 minutes northwest of Gunnison in the scenic Ohio Valley. Situated between Crested Butte and Blue Mesa Reservoir, the Ranch has access to a number of high-quality recreation amenities. Easily accessible, it is 203 miles southwest of Denver, 168 miles west of Colorado Springs, 161 miles west of Pueblo and 125 miles southeast of Grand Junction. The Gunnison Airport is a major hub for the Western Slope of Colorado with the facilities and runway length to accommodate 757 aircraft. Serviced year round by regional carriers from Denver, the airport is easily accessible from anywhere in the country. The airport also provides charter service, fueling and hanger facilities. Gunnison also has a full-service hospital.
AREA & CLIMATE
The Ohio Valley is bordered on the west by the West Elk Wilderness; on the north by the by the 10,033-foot Ohio Pass; and on the east by a number of towering sentinels Mt. Whetstone, Carbon Peak and the Anthracite Range. Within 30 miles of Gunnison are two popular ski resorts Crested Butte, know for its consistent deep powder and extreme skiing, and Monarch, the casual family resort. The average maximum temperature in Gunnison for the month of July is 81 degrees and the low is 42 degrees. In January the highs are around 26 and the lows can be as cold as 8 degrees. The chance of receiving at least one inch of precipitation in a two-week period from May through September ranges from 5% in early June and up to 27% in late July. Total annual precipitation equals 10.5 inches and total annual snowfall measures 54 inches.
RECREATION
The ranch is a haven for a wide variety of wildlife. Watch deer grazing from the dining room or hunt elk in adjacent Gunnison National Forest. Blue Mesa, the largest lake in the state, is located in Gunnison's Curecanti National Recreation Area. Boaters, windsurfers, fisherman and water skiers enjoy the 96 miles of shoreline. Golfers challenge themselves on the top rated 18-hole Dos Rio Golf Course and Skyland Golf Course. Backpackers hike to high mountain vistas and cyclists can tour the backcountry. Winter is a haven for snowmobilers, cross-country skiers, and ice-fishing anglers. Crested Butte Mountain Resort, known for its short lift lines, features 13 lifts and over 50 trails of ski terrain.
