Red Glen Ranch

LOCATION

New Castle, Colorado enjoys a mild climate nestled north of the Colorado River valley surrounded by high mountains and plateaus, with moderate winters, beautiful springs and falls, and pleasant summers. Temperatures range from an average of eighty eight degrees in July to thirty eight degrees in December with an average annual snowfall of 25 inches. The ranch is 74 miles from commercial air service in Grand Junction to the west, Vail is 73 miles to the east and Aspen is 53 miles southeast of the ranch.

ACREAGE

The Red Glen Ranch comprises 789 +/- acres, with 150 irrigated hay meadows with the remaining acreage pasture and dry land grazing. These pastures are interspersed with pockets of sage and oak brush, offering good cover for livestock year round. Longtime traditional ranches neighbor the Red Glen Ranch and the surrounding area for miles.

WATER

Red Glen Ranch has excellent water rights for a ranch of this size. Water rights include 392 acre feet from the Silt Water Conservancy District, an adequate amount for the 150 irrigated acres of hay meadows. These rights are utilized on the main ranch, either through flood irrigation of custom sprinkler system. Red Glen Ranch can harvest 2-3 cuttings of hay per year depending upon management style. A well is used to supplement the stock water as well as a spring for domestic water at the ranch home.

IMPROVEMENTS

The main home is a ranch style 2,000+/- square foot home built in 1965. Three bedrooms and one and a half baths with electric heat supplemented by a wood stove. A metal two story barn is situated apart from the home.

Irrigation improvements have taken place over the years and include; piping trough neighboring ranches, and integrating a gravity feed component to feed to the big irrigation guns and sprinklers.
