The Cross Ranch consists of 2,031 acres of diversified agricultural property including substantial building improvements. The ranch is located three (3) miles north of Pine Bluffs in southeastern Wyoming. This combination ranch offers a mix of land use types including native pasture, center pivot irrigated lands, dry croplands and CRP. The buildings include a large owners home and two other residences, several shops and Quonsets, covered hay storage, grain storage, horse facilities and corrals. The proximity to Interstate 80 (3 miles) and adjoining State Hwy 215 allow for excellent access. The ranch offers incredible views of the Pine Bluffs as well open prairie and in the far distance the Rocky Mountains.
ACREAGE
The acreage breakdown is as follows:
- 2,031 Acres Total
- 890 Acres Grass Pasture
- 445 Acres Pivot Irrigated
- 568 Acres Dry Cropland
- 91 Acres CRP grass
- 37 Acres Building Improvements and lots
The grass pasture is cross-fenced and in the shape of a Cross and served with an electric well and pipeline system. The pasture includes 75 FSA acres, currently in grass with an irrigation well currently not being used. The irrigated lands are serviced with four center pivot irrigation systems and five wells. The dry cropland is in excellent condition, with part planted to winter wheat and part in Alfalfa grass. The CRP lands are under contract No. 372 until 9/30/07 and pay $28.62 per acre on 91.5 acres with an annual payment of $2,619. Current annual FSA payments are $3,336.
The principal agricultural production from the operation comes from the irrigated ground. Considerable study has been made by the University of Wyoming and the University of Nebraska to use irrigated grass production and intensive grazing programs for beef production. The Cross Ranch is well suited for such a program with forage production from the irrigated land, dry-land cropland and the grass pasture. A complete program could be developed to maximize the economic capability of the ranch.

Cattle herds moved up the Texas Trail, which ran through Pine Bluffs and became the largest cattle shipping point on the UP Railroad around 1884.
