New Castle’s average annual precipitation is 17.9 inches, with an average low temp in December of 20 degrees and an average high in July of 89 degrees.
Direct access from the Monckton ranch to the 235,000 plus acres of the Routt and White River National Forests that comprise Flat Tops, the second largest wilderness area in Colorado, the Flat Tops is twice the size of Holy Cross or Eagle Nest Wilderness areas. One can explore Flat Tops on a maze of trails totaling well over 100 miles for hiking, fishing, horseback riding, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and camping.
WATER
Main Elk Creek runs through the middle of the ranch’s 54 acres. The water division has approved three wells with water diversion from the creek.
