Sunset Ridge Ranch offers a tree-covered private property with spectacular mountain views (and sunsets) and an ecologically diverse environment. The ranch consists of 220 acres of robust, healthy pine trees, rock outcroppings, and lush meadows, a paradise with a spectacular 4,900 square foot custom, stone-sided, frame home plus a full complement of outbuildings. Located in one of the more desirable areas on the Front Range of Colorado, Sunset Ridge Ranch lies between Falcon, Colorado and Elizabeth, Colorado, allowing the property easy access to either Colorado Springs or Denver. The property would make an exceptional equestrian facility or simply a private retreat.
LOCATION
The property is located approximately 27 miles northeast of downtown Colorado Springs and 35 miles southeast of Parker, (a Denver suburb). Colorado Springs and Parker offer all major services and Falcon, (15 miles) and Elizabeth, (20 miles) provide grocery, entertainment, and day to day services. The area is widely regarded as one of the better ranching and equestrian areas in the state due to strong reliable grass and consistent moisture. While most of the treed parcels on the Front Range have been subdivided into smaller tracts, Sunset Ridge Ranch offers an attractive large parcel in this area making it a sustainable property for livestock, hay production, wildlife and humankind.
The property address is 19525 Elbert Road, Elbert, CO 80106 Appointments Only.
ACREAGE
The property consists of 220 acres with pine trees intermixed with open grassy meadows. The land has a variety of topography including gently rolling meadows and hills and canyons covered with pine trees that make excellent habitat for native wildlife including deer, elk, coyote, fox and others. Because it is located in a transition zone between plains and forest, a multiplicity of bird life also make their homes at Sunset Ridge. The eastern portion of the property contains a 40 acre +/- hay field used to produce top quality grass hay. The property is boundary fenced and cross-fenced, creating six pastures for rotational grazing, developed and approved by the Natural Resources Conservation Service. A well, water pipeline and hydrants provide water to the pastures.
The property is served by a private gravel road and the house is less than a mile from Elbert Road (County Highway 25-41). The property is very unique because of the privacy it offers. The closest neighbor can not be viewed from the house site. Meanwhile, there is easy access to the paved highway.
IMPROVEMENTS
Sunset Ridge Ranch features a custom-built home designed by Virgil Hedlund, a known local home designer and builder. Other improvements consist of a traditional Dutch two story barn, open-faced livestock loafing shed, chicken house and green house.
Turning onto the property from the highway on a private road, you wind through the evergreen trees and grassy meadows until you crest a dramatic rock outcropping, where you find your castle, a luxurious custom-built home with rock siding and towering west-facing windows.
Upon entering the home into the large tile floor foyer, you will find the focal point of the home; a sunken great room with a cathedral ceiling and large pane windows that frame Pikes Peak in the distance. The southern wall features a rock fireplace with raised hearth, giving the home a true mountain feel. An open floor plan with wide plank red oak flooring continues to the dining area and kitchen, which is highlighted by an elongated center island and surrounding counter and cabinets allowing plenty of room for food preparation and lots of guests, who inevitably seem to follow their noses to the kitchen. Access is available from the dining area and living room to an outside deck and large picnic area and rock garden. The floor plan makes the home great for entertaining, yet still allows a warm and comfortable feel for time alone. A large pantry, study/guest bedroom and bathroom, laundry room, mechanical room, mudroom and access to the garage lie behind the dual access staircase and finish out the main floor. The upstairs hosts an open office that overlooks the great room and captures the mountain views through the cathedral windows. The master bedroom suite features a stylish bathroom, including steam room, whirlpool tub as well as large walk-in closet. The upstairs also includes a guest bedroom with full bathroom. The home consists of three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms with 3,522 square feet of living space above ground. An additional 1,397 square feet is located in the basement, which has eight foot walls, a half-bath and is otherwise unfinished. The basement currently supplies ample storage space. The oversized three-car garage, which measures 30x34, allows plenty of room for closeted tools, trucks, or large SUV's
A circle drive allows access to the complementary barn and outbuilding area. The large two- story Dutch-style barn (62 x 50) is accessed through large, drive-through sliding doors on each end, sliding doors from the stalls, as well as a walk-in door and a sliding door into the shop area. The barn has a burnished slate colored galvanized metal roof with covered loafing overhangs on each side for equipment storage and/or livestock shelter. A corral area provides access to a separate loafing shed. Sunset Ridge Ranchs sustainable capability is complemented by a chicken house, green house and garden. Historical artifacts upon the property give evidence of a Native American and early settler presence. Hand tools, fire rings, and petrified wood have been found on the property.
OPERATIONS
In keeping with its sustainable quality, no herbicides or chemicals have been used on the crops on the property so the native grass and hay lands could be worked into an organic designation. The hay lands are harvested into small bales for horse hay. The pastures are grazed during the growing season by cattle to keep the grasses growing and healthy. Nature is given priority and wildlife is given a wide berth in their natural surroundings. Deer, elk, coyotes, antelope, hawks, owls, many species of birds and other native wildlife are seen regularly, often from the large windows ringing the first floor.
SUMMARY
Sunset Ridge Ranch provides the epitome of the Colorado lifestyle with dramatic mountain views, privacy, natural surroundings, Ponderosa Pines, wildlife, sustainable features and easy, convenient access to both Colorado Springs and Denver. The structures are simply wonderful with a beautiful, well-designed modern home and carefully planned and useful outbuildings. There are very few properties that compare to this ranch which is realistically priced for today's market.
