ACREAGE AND DECSCRIPTION
Toad Mountain Ranch is slightly hilly with rolling meadows and treed areas and is at an elevation of approximately 1,769 feet. It is one of the highest peaks in the state, with outstanding 360 degree views of not only Toad Lake, but the surrounding countryside. The colorful fall scenery is spectacular. The property has approximately 825 feet of Toad Lake shoreline, and also has a large second lake within the interior of the property. Maples, aspens, birch, white pine and balsam fir dominate the land. Grassy meadows, ponds and marsh areas can also be found. A 20 plus mile trail system has been established on the entire acreage.
CURRENT OPERATIONS AND USEAGE
Prior to 2004, the entire ranch was a personal residence and recreational retreat for the owner. A stately barn, corrals, indoor and outdoor arenas, cozy lake-front log cabins, bunk house, lounge and dining hall have been added to convert this property to a horse ranch and camp. The owner offers a limited number of day camps and multi day overnight camps, trail riding, parties, lake cabin rentals, riding lessons and personal trail rides. Outdoor and indoor arenas were designed with multiple horse disciplines in mind, including dressage. Seasonal events have been very popular, such as the fall festival and Mother’s Day Ride. Most of the camps are aimed from nine year olds through teenage groups. The ranch was once featured on an episode on MTV Teen Cribs show.
WILDLIFE AND RECREATION
The acreage is home to deer, turkey, fox, otter and beaver to name a few. Nesting eagles and a blue heron rookery are also present. Loons, wood ducks, grouse, geese and osprey are also common sights. Toad Lake is approximately 1,716 acres with a depth of 29 feet. Bass, walleye, northern pike and crappies populate the lake. Known for being the headwaters of the Mississippi River, Itasca State Park is a short drive to the northern Minnesota, along with Tamarack Wildlife area. Toad Mountain boasts its own ski hill, in the center of the property.
