Exterior Walls
"Old West" board and batten. The colors for the roof and exterior walls were selected because they blend with the natural colors of the juniper and pine vegetation found on site.

Exterior Detailing
Native stone foundations, stone porch column piers and steps, three stone fireplaces, flagstone walks, native stone dry-stack landscape walls, heritage tile entry, redwood porch decks, heavy timber beams and columns. The covered porch spans the entire north side of the home. This 840 square foot space seems to levitate above the valley leading down to YL Canyon due to the slope falling to the north. The heavy timbers, rough sawn ceiling decking, stone piers and the redwood decks are elements true to the spirit of western design. Relaxing in the hot tub at sunset, watching the light change on the mountain range will be unforgettable.

Landscape Features
Stone walks, stone walls and stone garden borders, an irrigation system and base plantings are included. Local indigenes grasses have been sown in areas disrupted by construction.

Windows and Exterior Doors
Southwest Window and Door Company of Tucson, Arizona manufactured all of the windows and exterior doors, with the exception of the front entry door and garage entry door. manufacturers nationally. They utilize wire-brushed cedar for the units, best finishes, custom-forged hardware and custom screens.

The front door is a custom-made 2-1/4” thick knotty alder door with true divided lights. The garage entry door is a 2-1/4” thick custom-made cedar unit. All door locks are up-graded oil-rubbed bronze. The front entry lock is a custom-made hand-forged latch-style lock with custom deadbolt.

Interior Detailing
As you approach the entry, you will first notice the custom inlaid Anasazi bear figures in the Heritage saltillo tile floor. Once through the heavy knotty alder front door, you are treated to the detailed craftsmanship of the incredible alligator juniper railings leading up to the loft. Above you is a hand-made iron and rawhide lamp. A peeled bark tree rises from the bottom center of the U-shaped stairs and then branches up into the 20’ ceiling. One more peeled bark tree defines the sleeping area in the loft. The floors on the ground level are terracotta set on diagonal with heritage tile borders. The walls are stained Indian box-joint pine. Once into the living room, you will be impressed by the 20’+ high native stone fireplace, bow-trussed beam ceiling with wood deck.

There are huge 12” square exposed timber posts and beams supporting the roof structure and loft. You are also treated to an outstanding view of the peaks of the Gila Wilderness through the 8’ tall true-divided light insulated wood windows and doors that define most of the exterior walls of the living room. The loft features the same bow-truss beamed ceiling and juniper railings (overlooking the living room below) with stained southern yellow pine floors.

The kitchen features a terracotta tile floor, custom-made knotty alder cabinets with chocolate travertine stone countertops and painted vertical board walls and wood ceiling. A custom tile hood over the Viking gas range features an inlaid iron and tile image of two bears and a heart. The 30” high backsplash above the counter deck is heritage tile and travertine. Two iron and rawhide wall lamps bookend the windows over the French farmhouse country sink.

Appliances include the 36” Viking gas range, a 36” bottom freezer built-in Kitchen-Aide refrigerator with an icemaker and an Asko dishwasher that features super quiet operation and hidden controls. The counter wraps around to form an informal bar / serving counter between the great room area and the kitchen. There is a large walk-in pantry adjacent to the refrigerator. Both the refrigerator and dishwasher have knotty alder fronts to match the cabinets.

Both large bedrooms feature wool Berber carpets, timber beam-truss ceilings with wood decks, hand-troweled textured painted walls, walk-in closets and large stone fireplaces. The master suite has a cozy sitting alcove with wood walls and ceiling.

The master bath has a large stone and tile-walled shower with elegant stone trims, two porcelain white lavatories set in a travertine countertop with custom knotty alder cabinets. All of the interior doors in the home are custom knotty alder. Both bedrooms have views of the Gila Wilderness through 9’ wide, 8’ tall window and door units placed so the views can be seen from the bed. The master bedroom has a Jacuzzi just outside its exterior door on the north covered porch.

The west bedroom bath features two pedestal lavatories against an entire wall of heritage tile with a window with an antique ironwood cabinet between. Handcrafted juniper framed mirrors are hung above each lavatory. The cast-iron tub is located in a separate room and has custom tiled walls. The closet has a secret room attached. The west bedroom features another alcove with a custom-made bed with large pillows for curling up with a book or to be used as additional bed space.

The laundry room has terracotta tiled floors and hand-troweled painted walls. This room includes a Kitchen-Aide washer and dryer.

Garage
The detached garage measures approximately 24’ square. Plenty of room for a car and huge shop! The wall studs are exposed to accommodate special wiring for shop needs a buyer may require. The 9’ wide by 8’ tall, insulated, sectional rustic garage door is equipped with a remote opener for your car.

The power for Two Bears is supplied by a photovoltaic solar system. This is a 2.3-kilowatt unit (13,860 rated watts per day). It features a Trace 4048 inverter, 175-amp main DC breaker and 60 amp array breaker, two lightning suppressors, a 50-amp boost solar charge controller with digital meter, a 48-volt tri-metric meter, fourteen Sharp 165-watt panels mounted on the south-facing roof of the garage, a 6,700-watt Mitsubishi propane backup generator 120v/240v output with auto-start and twenty four US deep-cycle batteries. If this sounds technical, it is, but you have a ranch foreman who is very knowledgeable about the operation of this system. The important thing to remember is this system supplies power just like what you would expect from the grid.

Additionally, this home has been wired for telephone, RG-6 cable for satellite TV and high-speed internet.

Heating
This home has two gas furnaces for zone control. Propane is the fuel for these units as well as the Viking range, hot water heater, backup generator and clothes dryer.

Sewer
The home has a 1,200-gallon septic system with a leach field.

Furniture & Accessories
The photos will attest to the level of detail and completeness of the furniture package. Many of the pieces are antiques. A number of shopping trips to antique warehouses in old El Paso, Las Cruces, Phoenix and Scottsdale resulted in a home that is western and comfortable! Pillow-top beds, Ralph Lauren bedding, supple leather chairs, accessory pieces from all over the world, old-world Mexican-crafted furniture, hand-made chests, wrought iron and wicker all blend to result in truly comfortable western elegance. The loft has not been furnished because of the variation of uses an owner may desire an additional sleeping area, an office, library, art studio the choice will be yours.
