It’s rare to find a facility of this quality in such a magnificent setting that caters to physical and spiritual well-being, as well as being a center for learning, meditation, transformation, and more. While you are only one and a half miles from the bustling town of Dolores the feeling is of being very remote and serene. The property is in close proximity to an abundance of natural and historical attractions.

Mesa Verde National Park offers an incredible look into the lives of the Ancestral Puebloan people who lived there for 700 years. Beautifully constructed cliff dwellings were built between 600 and 1300 AD. Other attractions are Hovenweep National Monument, Canyons of the Ancients National Monument and others.

The Retreat is on the edge of the San Juan National Forest and a stone’s throw from Mc Phee Reservoir, the second largest reservoir in Colorado, which provides some excellent fishing. In addition, there are numerous streams and rivers for the fly fishing enthusiast. There is excellent big game viewing and hunting in the area and plenty of trails for hiking and biking. The views of the San Juan Mountains, Ute Mountain (sleeping UTE) and Mesa Verde are impressive and imposing.

Durango, and all the amenities it has to offer, including a commercial airport, excellent restaurants, fine art galleries and great shopping for both women and men, is about forty miles from the retreat. And, there are sporting goods stores where you can book a day of guided fly fishing on one of the many rivers and streams in the area. Telluride, a world-class ski and summer resort is about an hour from Sophia Retreat Center. If you like hot springs, you can find them in Rico, on the way to Telluride.


The 8,000 square foot log lodge is the focal point of the retreat. The Grand Room, with a warm inviting fireplace, is the largest meeting room and can accommodate up to 100, or it can be configured into smaller meeting or breakout rooms. You’ll find oak flooring throughout most of the first level and tile flooring in the dining area.The business office, on the main level, could be another bedroom, and, there is a fully equipped commercial kitchen capable of preparing meals for up to 100. You’ll find that most all of the necessary equipment is top-of-the-line and there is a walk-in refrigerator, a walk-in freezer and a laundry room. On the second level of the lodge there are six en suites in various configurations offering king, queen or double bed sizes. The master/owners’ quarters en suite is on the main level. On the lower level you will find a recreation room, with a kitchen area for staff. Another laundry room is also on this level.

The Guest House is a stucco building with a metal roof, five en suites and has a carpeted meeting area. The meeting is octagonal with a half bath and has two sliding glass doors leading to a covered porch with beautiful views of Mesa Verde to the south, and of the Retreats property. One of the en suites adjoins the meeting room with a large ¾ bath a walk-in closet and a covered porch with views of the La Plata Mountains to the east. The guest rooms all have an exterior door leading out to a sunny common area with a small pavilion.

Mesa House, with a metal roof, has eleven en suites with concrete parking paddocks in front of the south facing units. In addition there is an expansive, carpeted meeting room with air conditioning, two public restrooms with showers and a laundry room. Additionally, there are two offices, both of which could be bedrooms.

All the sleeping and meeting facilities are first class and flexible to accommodate your group whether ten, twenty, forty or one hundred. Additional amenities include: a labyrinth; covered, lighted pavilion; and Mother Mary Meditation Garden.
