Under Contract - At 285 acres, the Lorenz Ranch is one of the few remaining large land holdings in the Conifer and Evergreen area. The location of the ranch is easily accessible all year long, plus it is readily accessible to many parts of the Denver metro area via Highway 285 to C470. Coming from the North or the South on Highway 285 exit at Pleasant Park Rd. Then go approximately 2.5 miles to Oehlmann Park Rd. turn left and go about 1 mile to Oehlmann Avenue turn left and go to the end. Ranch entrance is on the right.
The Lorenz Ranch consists of 285 acres of flat to rolling to sloping grassland and woodlands. Approximately ¾ of the ranch is covered with Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir and Aspen trees, to a greater or lesser degree and at the southeast end of the property is a spring fed pond, plus lower portions of Legault Mountain adjoin the ranch on the northwest side. The ranch borders 40 landlocked acres of Denver Mountain Park land that are totally inaccessible to the public.
The main house, built in 1930, has 1,970 square feet, four bedrooms and two bathrooms with a natural stone foundation. The property has two barns, 720 square foot and 576 square foot, both have second level hay storage. The larger barn has a tack room and two stalls. The 360 square foot original homestead house has been lovingly remodeled into an old time saloon and gathering place. A seven-stall structure provides four stalls for vehicle / equipment parking, two stalls with a garage door are a workshop, and the seventh stall is currently being used for firewood storage. There are other small buildings for equipment and miscellaneous storage.
In recent years cattle grazing has been done in accordance with the guidelines in the Conservation Easement, and Hay production. Forestry thinning that is currently being done may allow for grazing for more animal units (AUs). An animal unit is a cow with a calf by her side for six months.
Mule deer are the most prevalent, and there are elk, bear, mountain lion and bobcat. You will also find the standard varieties mountain songbirds, hummingbirds, falcons and hawks, and raccoons and rabbits.
The meadows provide an ideal place for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter months. The entire ranch is ideal for hiking and horseback riding in the other months.
The ranch has been protected from future development with a Conservation Easement with the Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT). A copy of the easement is available.
